Fernando Gama

  Guitarist Fernando Gama started his musical career in the mid 70’s as the bassist of the rock group Vimana which was one of the first rock group in Brazil . Lobao , Lulu Santos and Ritchie were also members of the group. After the end of Vimana , Fernando was invited to join a group led by ex Yes member Patrick Moraz. He stayed for about one year during which he recorded an album that was released in Europe.

In 1980 Gama joins the rock group Mutantes led by Sergio Dias and will also play on Sergio’s first solo album along with the indian violinist L. Shankar. The same year he will join the fusion group of trumpet player Marcio Montarroyos with Ricardo Silveira , Leo Gandelman Alfredo Dias Gomes and Victor Biglione. In 1981 Fernando plays on the second solo album of the piano player  Marcos Resende and will also play with Pat Metheny on Celia Vaz’s album. That will be the beginning of Fernando’s studio career as a freelancer. Fernando has worked with Ivan Lins , Toninho Horta, Joao Donato , Fagner, Chico Buarque, Roberto Carlos , Pepeu Gomes , Robertinho do Recife, Leila Pinheiro, Selma Reis and Luis Melodia to name but a few.

His compositions were recorded by artists such as : Sergio Dias Patrick Moraz, Tim Maia , Boca Livre , Maria Creuza and Joana. Fernando also wrote themes for the radio Alvorada FM and a project of 40 stories for children published by Abril cultural.

In 1992 Fernando Gama joined the vocal group Boca Livre. His contribution as soloist plays a key role and helped shape the sound of the group putting the emphasis on the instrumental aspect of the arrangements. Fernando has recorded 7 albums with Boca Livre . The last CD of the group Americana was recorded in New York and was released in Brazil , Japan and in Europe. During their last tour in the USA, Boca Livre was invited to record with the lead singer of the group Yes Jon Anderson.

Boca Livre won in 95 and 96 the music award Sharp in the best group category. His second solo album is released in the USA on the Mancub records label.
Fernando is now working on project with Ruben Blades. He will be appearing as special guest on a tour of the USA and Central America.
